AmCham and Delhaize representatives met with Zoran Lazić, Assistant Minister at Ministry of Labour, Employment, Veteran and Social Policy on the topic of food surplus. This meeting was a great opportunity to discuss the status of the announced Law on Food Surplus and possible AmCham engagement in its drafting.

Although there is still no official Draft Law on Food Surplus, Ministry has last year established a working group in charge for analyzing the potentials of regulating this area. The working group has produced a set of recommendations that were sent to the Minister, and which they agreed to share with AmCham.

The most important mentioned issues that would require special attention were the regulation of the organization that would deal with food distribution, tax treatment of food surplus donations etc.

As a result of this initiative, AmCham was invited to form a subgroup that would work closely with the Ministry and give concrete suggestions for the solutions that should become part of the Law on Food Surplus, based on the best comparative practices and adjusted to Serbia’s particularities.
