Ljubinka Vivčar leaves behind a remarkable legacy with a special beneficiary in her will - the animal welfare organization ORCA.

Ljubinka, who was an animal lover throughout her life, made one last gesture to help the cause of animal welfare in Serbia. After her passing, her Belgrade apartment was left to ORCA, an organization which helps people in Serbia and Western Balkans to improve environmental protection and welfare of animals.

Moved by her kindness, ORCA decided to put Ljubinka’s former residency at the disposal of young professionals in the field of animal welfare. They will launch a campaign shortly, to raise money for renovating the apartment which will then be turned into a “student home”, for two students who are studying veterinary medicine, biology, ethology, law or sociology, and are committed to helping animals in their fields.

Of course, it is crucial to remember just how vital the welfare of animals is to a society as a whole. Not just in the food industry, but also more generally, as pets are known to help the emotional development of children and the course of various medical treatments.

The students in this home will also take part in ORCA Academy, a project which supports young experts in the fields of animal welfare and environmental protection, through different training, mentoring and internship programs.
