As a way of marking 50 years of doing business in Serbia, Coca-Cola signed a donation agreement on 31st October with Red Cross Serbia and Fund B92. The value of the donation is EUR 50,667 (RSD 6,000,000) and the money is meant for supporting the work of soup kitchens in Serbia.

The donation will cover the costs of food preparation equipment, which will allow soup kitchens to prepare better quality food much quicker. This is very important considering the very high number of people using soup kitchens. Old equipment will be replaced in 12 kitchens run by Red Cross.

The plan is to set up the new equipment by spring of 2019, in cooperation with Fund B92. At the same time, a special kitchen in Belgrade is set to start working, where food will be prepared in situations of crisis or extreme circumstances.

There are currently 76 soup kitchens in Serbia, operated by Red Cross, where meals are prepared over 34.000 people. An even more striking piece of information is the fact that around 12.000 soup kitchen users are children. In Belgrade alone there are 52 active distribution points in 17 city municipalities.

“Soup kitchens are a symbol of the most humane kind of support for individuals and families, and some of them provide the only warm meal some of the most vulnerable citizens of Serbia can get. This is why the donation from Coca-Cola is especially important. This is a remarkable gesture of our partner, which has always helped citizens in every difficult situation and crisis”, said Red Cross President, dr. Dragan Radovanovic.
