Solidarity continues in 2021 – we are still supporting our communities in the fight against COVID-19
The cause that definitely marked the previous year in terms of philanthropy and donations is support to the fight against the effects of COVID-19, while citizens, companies and non-profit organizations have continued to donate for this cause in 2021 as well.
In this text, you will have the opportunity to read about the donations for the fight against COVID-19 we have made to support our communities in the previous and the beginning of this year.
RSD 3,525,000 raised for the support to dramatic artists
Mozzart, in cooperation with renowned Serbian actors, organized a humanitarian action to support dramatic artists, who have lost their jobs due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Namely, on their Youtube channel, Mozzart streamed a play called ‘Balkanski špijun’, which the actors performed via ZOOM. By sharing the link on their social media, citizens helped increase the amount of donations with every share. The total amount raised was RSD 3,525,000, while the play had over 200,000 views in 24 hours.
The actors involved in the online performance of ‘Balkanski špijun’, written by Dušan Kovačević, were Dragan Bjelogrlić (the role of Ilija Čvorović), Mima Karadžić (Đura), Vesna Trivalić (Danica), Branka Katić (Sonja) and Gordan Kičić (Petar Markov Jakovljević), and Zoran Kesić as the narrator.
This was the first ZOOM play in Europe, and the initiative under which it was performed was called ‘Mozzart for you and actors’.
Ana & Vlade Divac Foundation donated to Kragujevac Hospital
Ana & Vlade Divac Foundation and HRH Crown Princess Katherine made a donation to the COVID Hospital in Kragujevac. The necessary assistance came owing to the generosity of a long-term donor from the USA, Anka Erne.
The EUR 7,000 donation included a large amount of surgical face masks, protective gloves, medicines (vitamin C and probiotics), and cleaning brushes and brooms.
Meridian donated to Loznica Health Center
Throughout the whole previous year, Meridian supported the fight against COVID-19 in Serbia through various initiatives and donations. The company donated funds and necessary medical equipment, in accordance with the needs of individual institutions.
Within the initiative, Meridian visited more than 60 cities across Serbia, including Loznica, to which the company donated necessary equipment in the form of non-contact thermometers, tables, chairs and other necessities to enable smooth patient admission.
Director Branka Krasavac received the donation on behalf of the Health Center and expressed gratitude on behalf of all her colleagues for the received assistance.
NIS donations
NIS was also one of the companies that provided constant support last year in the fight against COVID-19.
In cooperation with UNICEF, NIS donated 50 oxygen flowmeters to the Clinical Center of Serbia and University Hospital Center ‘Dr Dragiša Mišović’. In addition, to further support patients and medical professionals, the company donated 20,000 liters of drinking water ‘Jazak’ to University Hospital Center ‘Dr Dragiša Mišović’, UHC ‘Bežanijska kosa’, UHC ‘Zvezdara’, and to Specialized Hospital for Lung Diseases ‘Dr Vasa Savić’ in Zrenjanin.
Furthermore, through the program ‘Together for Community’ (‘Zajednici zajedno’) organized last year in cooperation with the Ministry of Health, the company invested RSD 116.5 million to improve the work of 20 healthcare institutions across Serbia.
What is more, during the emergency state, NIS volunteers brought groceries to fellow citizens whose movement was restricted, made protective masks and visors, disinfected public areas, etc.
Hajriz Brčvak supported Berane Day Center
In 2020, Hajriz Brčvak, a humanitarian from Bijelo Polje, supported the Montenegrin community with donations for the fight against COVID-19, whose total value in money and goods exceeded half a million euros.
In late December 2020, he made a donation to the Day Center for Children and Youth with Developmental Disabilities in Berane in the form of 150 rapid COVID-19 tests.
Miloš Brakočević, Director of the Berane Day Center, thanked Brčvak and his foundation ‘Hemiias’ for this valuable donation, crucial for the safety and health of the beneficiaries of this institution.
