During April, due to World Autism Day marked on April 2, communities unite to shed light on the unique strengths and challenges of individuals with autism, emphasizing the need for tailored support and advocacy efforts. The need for contribution for autism initiatives, individuals and organizations who provide crucial resources and support systems that directly enhance the quality of life for those with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and their families, exists in Kosovo as well.
Therefore, for this listicle we have analyzed data regarding Kosovo's initiatives to support this cause while spotlighting inspirational stories of philanthropic efforts directed toward fostering an environment of acceptance and empowerment of individuals with ASD.
Philanthropic donations on Autism Support
In the last three years (2021-2023), “Giving Kosovo” recorded a sum of 19,684 euros donated to individuals with ASD in Kosovo. The corporate sector emerged as the primary benefactor, demonstrating a commitment to social responsibility by contributing 16,666 euros in 2023. Meanwhile, in 2021 and 2022 individuals also played a vital role in supporting autism causes, contributing 3,018 euros.
The collective impact of these contributions is further underscored by the allocation of funds towards one-off actions and strategic initiatives. One-off actions, totaling 3,018 euros, reflect individual acts of generosity and support, each contributing to the broader effort of advancing autism awareness and support in Kosovo. Conversely, strategic donations, amounting to 16,666 euros, highlight corporate donation that addresses systemic challenges and create sustainable solutions for individuals with ASD.
The Stories of Giving for Autism
Giving towards autism initiatives directly translates into tangible improvements in the lives of individuals with ASD, offering them greater opportunities for growth, development, and inclusion within society.
The largest donation in the last three years is from NLB Bank in Kosovo. Of the 100,000 euros NLB Bank donated to charity, 16,666 euros were given to the NGO “Autizmi flet” (Autism Speaks), bolstering efforts toward autism awareness and support.
Regarding individual contribution, the journalist and poet Arbër Selmani demonstrated unwavering support for autism causes through the proceeds from his book sales in 2021 and 2022, donating a total of 3,018 euros. In April 2021, the first part of the profits from his book “Kosovo in 14 cultural stories - 2” amounted to 1,033 euros, followed by a subsequent donation of 1,285 euros made in December 2021, and 700 euros donated in October 2022, from which families with children on the autism spectrum benefited.

Support for autism in Kosovo has not been missing from the diaspora either. 1,850 euros were donated by Arbert Lubeqnqi, who lives in Germany. On May 13 he embarked on an 1,850 km cycling journey from Kassel in Germany to the Municipality of Istog in Kosovo, spanning 15 days in 2023. Lubeniqi pledged 1.00 euro for each kilometer traveled in support of autism initiatives, culminating in the abovementioned donation.
Conclusion
The contributions made thus far are noteworthy and should serve as role models for others to follow. The impact of giving goes beyond monetary value; it signifies a commitment to fostering an environment of acceptance, inclusion, and empowerment. Whether through donations, advocacy, or fostering understanding in our communities, each of us has the power to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those affected by autism.
